NDC Delegation Visits Ewmgl Media Outlets

A delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) visited media outlets of the East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) in the Bashundhara Residential Area of Dhaka on Wednesday, as part of its National Defence Course-2023 curriculum.

Maj Gen Md Mostagousur Rahman Khan, a faculty member of the NDC, led the 100-member delegation which included faculty members and participants of the course. 

Apart from civil and military officials of Bangladesh, 29 members of the armed forces of 17 countries have taken part in the course.

The team exchanged views with editors and senior journalists of newspapers, TV and online portals of the EWMGL, a sister concern of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group. They also visited the Daily Sun, a leading English newspaper, and News24, a popular news channel.

During their visit, the NDC delegates learned about the latest trends in media, media management, and various technical methods of news management.

Earlier, Bashundhara Group and EWMGL Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir welcomed the NDC team after their arrival at the East West Media Complex.

Later, the view-exchange meeting was held at the EWMGL conference room. The Bashundhara Group and EWMGL managing director attended the programme. 

Among others, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Kaler Kantho Editor-in-Chief Imdadul Haq Milan and Editor Shahed Muhammad Ali, banglanews24.com Editor Jewel Mazhar, and News24 Deputy Chief News Editor Ashikur Rahman Srabon were present. The Daily Sun Editor Md Rezaul Karim moderated the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Sayem Sobhan said, “Among all business entities, the Bashundhara Group gives special importance to the media outlets.”

He thanked the NDC delegates for choosing the EWMGL as part of the course curriculum.

Maj Gen Mostagousur Rahman said their visit to the media house was to learn firsthand about the working methods of the media. He thanked the EWMGL for providing this opportunity.

While briefing the delegates, the Daily Sun Editor Rezaul Karim said, “With neutrality at its heart, the East West Media Group Ltd has emerged as the largest group in South Asia for running seven media outlets under one roof.”

The outlets include an English newspaper – the Daily Sun, Bengali dailies – Bangladesh Pratidin and Kaler Kantho, a bilingual online portal – banglanews24.com, FM radio station – Radio Capital, and TV channels – News24 and T Sports.

The editor added, “Journalists in the EWMGL media outlets enjoy absolute freedom with no interference from the owners and they never compromise with journalism ethics.

“They always maintain objectivity, give voice to the voiceless, and ensure equal treatment to all as deserved.”

During the visit, Sayem Sobhan presented crests and souvenirs to the participants of the course. Maj Gen Mostagousur Rahman also presented crests and souvenirs to Sayem Sobhan and all editors of the EWMGL media outlets.
