Sewing machines distributed to underprivileged women in Bogura

Bashundhara Shuvosangho has distributed free sewing machines to underprivileged women in Sherpur Upazila, Bogura to help improve their livelihoods and achieve financial independence.

The sewing machines were handed over to 15 disadvantaged women during a colourful event held on Friday afternoon at the upzila parishad auditorium. The machines were distributed by noted writer and Bashundhara Group Adviser Imdadul Haq Milan.

Prior to the distribution, the women had received three months of free sewing training under an initiative of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.

Although the event officially began at 3:00pm, the beneficiaries arrived in the morning to receive their new machines. Many were seen expressing excitement and hope, viewing the opportunity as a path toward self-reliance.

Speaking at the event, Milan said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has always stood beside the people of the country. He noted that empowering financially disadvantaged women is one of the organization’s key goals.

He also said that during the coronavirus pandemic, the organisation provided assistance to nearly one crore families and continues to support students at school and college levels through scholarships.

According to him, the sewing machines are being distributed under the direction of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan to help underprivileged women become self-sufficient. Sherpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiduzzaman Himu praised the initiative, calling it a noble effort. He said 15 families had benefited through training and sewing machines, which would enable the women to earn an income and become self-reliant.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Shuvosangho, saying they first received training and then free sewing machines. They said they hoped to use the machines to generate income, improve their lives, and bring financial stability to their families.
Among others present at the programme were local political leaders, journalists, and officials of the Sherpur unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
