Bashundhara working to build green Bangladesh

Forestlands in Bangladesh are disappearing keeping pace with time. Trees are being felled indiscriminately all over the country. Human civilisation has flourished under the shade of trees.
Alongside fulfilling the basic needs of humans, trees are vital in combating natural disasters, preventing adverse effects of climate change, protecting natural equilibrium and creating an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Trees play an important role in preventing environmental pollution and decreasing global warming. Bashundhara Shuvosangho is working to make people aware of the issue and build a green Bangladesh.
The Shuvosangho friends have started planting saplings as rainfall increased during the past few days. Visiting different educational institutions, they are handing over various types of saplings to students.

The Shuvosangho members are planting saplings themselves beside roads, in open spaces and around different educational institutions. Alongside, they are making people aware of the adverse environmental effects. Informing people of the advantage of tree plantation, saplings are being handed over to people.  

Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Committee Office Secretary Sharif Mahdi Ashraf Jibon informed that the initiative will continue throughout the rainy season.
A tree plantation campaign was organised taking the students of Chattogram University of Science and Technology (CUST) with them.

Patuakhali, Patiya, Boalkhali (Chattogram), Fulbari, Kaharol, Birampur, Bochaganj (Dinajpur), Dhaka College (Dhaka), Kaliganj, Kaliakoir (Gazipur), Kalai, Khetlal (Joypurhat), Swarupkathi (Pirojpur), Dhamrai (Dhaka), Thakurgaon, Rajibpur (Kurigram), Pabna district, Jagannath University, Nilphamari, Koira (Khulna), Godagari (Rajshahi), Roumari (Kurigram), Kalkini (Madaripur), Nilphamari district, Phulbari, Chilmari, Ulipur (Kurigram), Ishwarganj, Tarakanda, Phulpur (Mymensingh), Natore district, Tularampur (Narail), IUBAT (Dhaka), Paikgachha (Khulna), Tala (Satkhira), Rangpur, Juri (Moulvibazar), Gono Bishwabidyalay (Savar), CUET (Chattogram) and Munshiganj.

CUST Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, Pro-VC Prof Dr Jamal Uddin Ahmed and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning Prof Dr Muhammad Rashidul Hasan graced the occasion.

Stressing the necessity of tree plantation and creating interest among students, Prof Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said, "Trees are our best friends. They provide us with shade, fruits, flowers and oxygen."
He thanked Bashundhara Shuvosangho for undertaking the countrywide tree plantation programme.

Attending a programme organised by the Shuvosangho Thakurgaon district unit, district Superintendent of Police (SP) Uttam Prashad Pathak said, "Alongside government, let all of us plant trees in large numbers for environmental equilibrium. I urge the family members, friends and well-wishers to plant at least two saplings at everyone's house and abandoned places. We shall have to take care of the saplings so that none can destroy them."

Mentioning that Shuvosangho is doing a humanitarian act, he said Thakurgaon district police is expressing solidarity with them and they will cooperate in the good deeds.
IUBAT Associate Prof Sadekul Islam, also the President of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central Committee, said, "Trees are the best friends of human beings. Each and every individual will have to love trees. It will be good if trees are planted on special days. The unbearable heat of summer will reduce significantly if trees are planted across the country in large numbers."

The organisers informed that trees are being felled indiscriminately following unplanned urbanisation and development activities as well as the fascination of technology.
Forestlands are vanishing fast resulting in natural calamities and global warming putting human civilisation at risk.

Transforming tree plantation into a social movement, it should be spread all around. Each and every conscious citizen should come forward to plant trees.
Bangladesh is one of the countries that have been affected by environmental degradation and climate change-induced disasters.

Because of the rise in warming, the country is suffering from the adverse impact of climate change. Alongside various types of losses, natural disasters are on the rise. Bangladesh was originally a country of six seasons, but now three seasons are visible.

Because of the adverse effects of climate change, nature has been devastated. To get rid of the situation, trees should be planted in greater numbers.
This is why we are participating in the countrywide tree plantation and sapling distribution programme.
