On Saturday afternoon, children with special needs, along with their guardians, gathered at the green field of Bashundhara Public School and College (BPSC) in the capital to take part in a vibrant festival organised by the Bashundhara Special Children Foundation (BSCF).
The event, titled ‘Eso Mili Sobe Praner Utsabe,’ featured a variety of fun activities and performances designed to celebrate the uniqueness of these children.
From noon, the atmosphere was filled with the joyful sounds of children enjoying an open-air event that included outdoor rides on the BPSC campus in the Bashundhara Residential Area. Many children, accompanied by their guardians, roamed around the field, taking in the festive atmosphere.
The children became more emotional as they interacted with Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, who is widely recognised for his philanthropic efforts. Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman Safwan Sobhan and Director Yeasha Sobhan were also present on the occasion.
The event officially began with a warm welcome from Tasvir ul Islam, executive director of Daily Sun and T Sports. Following his address, all attendees stood and sang the national anthem alongside the special children, creating a heartwarming moment of unity.
Yeasha Sobhan, chairman of Bashundhara Special Children Foundation, shared her experience working with the differently-abled children over the years. “There are 443 students here. They are not only receiving education but also gaining technical skill-based training to help with their future careers. Additionally, we offer various types of therapy to improve the children’s conditions,” she said.
Yeasha Sobhan, inspired by her mother’s philanthropic activities, also mentioned that Bashundhara Tissue contributes Tk1 from every box sold to support the school for special children.
“I expressed my gratitude to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, who provided a full-fledged campus for the special children,” she added.
A touching moment followed as Yeasha interacted with the children on stage, listening to their experiences.
Retired major Mohsinul Karim, in-charge of BSCF, also took the stage to share his thoughts on working with special children.
“Under the guidance of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, we have been running the school quietly, focusing on the children rather than media attention. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with these children for the past 12 years,” he said. BPSC Principal Brigadier General Anisur Rahman, Rangpur Riders coach Mickey Arthur, ABG Bashundhara Director Mostafa Azad Mohiuddin and BSCF Principal Shaila Sharmin were also present on the occasion.
The presence of celebrated athletes of the cricket franchise, Rangpur Riders, added an exciting touch to the celebration. The players posed for photos with the children and exchanged gifts, creating cherished memories for the little ones. Three guardians also shared their heartfelt experiences about the Bashundhara Special Children Foundation.
The event concluded with a vibrant display of cultural activities, featuring dance and drama performances by the special children.
