Bashundhara Foundation distributes interest-free loans among 443 women in Bancharampur

The Bashundhara Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bashundhara Group, distributed Tk80 lakh in interest-free loans among 443 impoverished women in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Wednesday.

The initiative, part of the 75th phase of the foundation's loan programme, aims to change the fate of underprivileged communities by providing them with the necessary financial resources.

Bashundhara Foundation Chief Executive Officer M Naseemul Hye and Deputy General Manager Maimun Kabir, and Bashundhara Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman were present on the occasion.

Speaking before distributing the loan, Naseemul Hye said Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan took the initiative of disbursing interest-and service charge-free loan in 2005 to empower underprivileged communities in rural areas of Bangladesh.

"Since its inception, Bashundhara Group has been consistently disbursing loans free of interest and service charges for the welfare of people. The people of Bancharampur are investing in various sectors after taking out loans. We hope they won't remain insolvent for long as making them prosperous is the sole aim and objective of the industrial conglomerate."

This loan was distributed only to women, and women are benefiting greatly from investing this money in 32 types of activities, including poultry, cow-goat rearing, and vegetable farming.

The loan distribution was initially limited to only Bancharampur upazila, but now it has expanded to neighbouring Homna and Nabinagar upazilas.
