12,500 get free eye care in Harinarayanpur

Dwarka Das Welfare Society (DDWS) provided free eye treatment to 12,500 underprivileged people at a medical camp in Harinarayanpur union of Kushtiaon Tuesday.

DDWS, under founder Paban Kumar Agarwala's philanthropic initiative, partnered with Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) and Vision Care Foundation to conduct the free camp.

A BEHRI team of doctors, including Dr Anthony Albert, Dr Jerin Parvin, and Dr Adnan, assisted eye patients in computer-based eye examinations.

Speaking about the initiative, Paban Kumar Agarwala said that the platform has been organising the eye camp over the years to serve the underprivileged communities.

“The camp has been helping the patients through pre-registration while the selected patients will go to Dhaka on the advice of the doctors,” Agarwala told the Daily Sun.

Since 2017, DDWS has provided medical support to 7,800 patients in four eye camps, of whom 6,150 received medication and 3,780 received glasses.

Of the beneficiaries, 1,320 underwent surgery free of charge.
