Prospect for PPP bright/BG procures two ultra-modern dredgers soon

The Bashundhara Group (BG), a leading industrial and business conglomerate in the country, under its relentless endeavors of business expansion, has decided to become a supporting force of the government in pacing up the government’s capital dredging project for the major rivers and the coastal belts The BG in its latest bid to help the state retrieving safer navigability in the river ways under public private partnership (PPP), recently entered into an agreement of procuring two heavy duty and ultra modern dredgers from a renowned manufacturer and supplier of digging apparatus in the United States of America – Dredging Supply Company Inc in Louisiana. The dredgers are to be procured at an estimated cost of Taka 1400 million at the first phase and more procurement of the similar equipments may take place in the coming phases on the basis of need assessment. Director of International Sales of the Dredging Supply Company Inc, USA Charles A Sinunu and Senior Deputy Managing Director of the Bashundhara Group Mohammad Belayet Hossain signed the agreement on behalf of the respective entities The agreement signing ceremony took place at Westin Dhaka on Thursday evening. The Dredging Supply Company Inc, USA is likely to supply the dredgers by the middle of the coming year. Managing Director and Additional Managing Director of the Bashundhara Group Mr. Sayem Sobhan and Mr. Safwan Sobhan, Second Secretary (Economic and Commercial Affairs) at the US Embassy in Dhaka Mr. Alexander Gazis, Senior official at the Trade Division of the US Embassy in Dhaka Mr. Mohammad Yusuf among the dignitaries attended the function. Advisor (Press & Media) Mohammad Abu Tayeb, Executive Director Md. Fakhruddin, Executive Director of Bashundhara Logistics Captain Ruhul Amin of the Bashundhara Group and local representatives of the dredging supplying company Messrs Sperry International Mr. Naibul Islam and Mr. K A Karim were also present at the agreement signing ceremony. The private sector support for the state project was drawn when the government had vigorously looking for assistance from the foreign development partners. Different international lending agencies have already been urged to provide funds for the mega-project.
