Bashundhara Group Stands by the Victims of Rimal in Mongla

Bashundhara Group distributed essential food items to victims of cyclone Remal in the Mongla and Rampal areas of Bagerhat on Thursday.

Officials of the industrial conglomerate provided food items, including oil, rice, sugar, salt, flattened rice (chira), noodles, bread, and lentils, to 2500 people in two upazilas, says a press release.

The severe Cyclone Remal has ravaged coastal areas, including Rampal and Mongla port, resulting in severe damage to at least 8,500 unpaved houses and roads.

Bashundhara Group has stepped forward to assist the affected and distressed people in Mongla and Rampal.

Begum Habibun Nahar, former deputy minister for the Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, graced the relief distribution programme at Chandpai Union Parishad premises in Mongla as the chief guest.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Tariqul Islam, Project Implementation Officer Zafar Rana, Chandpai Union Parishad Chairman Mollah Tariqul Islam, Bashundhara Group General Manager Faizur Rahman and Deputy General Manager Masudur Rahman were also present on the occasion.

Bashundhara Group extended relief assistance to another 1,500 vulnerable individuals in the Ber Union Parishad area of Rampal Upazila. Before the distribution, Habibun Nahar emphasised the devastation caused by Cyclone Remal along the coast and the Sundarbans.

“In addition to the loss of people in this region, there has been irreparable damage to forests and fauna. Although there was not much loss of human life, there was a huge loss of property. Numerous wildlives have died along with the mangrove vegetation, which will take years to recover,” she said.

The lawmaker appreciated the role of the Bashundhara Group for standing beside people along with the government during this disaster.

“We congratulate and welcome them for standing by the helpless people. We hope the chairman of Bashundhara Group will continue his philanthropic activities,” added Nahar.

Bashundhara Group officials said that the industrial group will provide relief assistance to the victims of natural disasters in other areas of the country as well.
