Rangpur: The Rangpur divisional round of ‘Bashundhara Cement Drawing Competition-2012’ and prize giving ceremony was held at Begum Rokeya University on Friday afternoon. Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Abdul Jalil Miah, was present as the chief guest while Treasurer Prof Mozammel Hoque, and Registrar Shajahan Ali Mandol were present as special guests. Deputy General Manager, Cement Sector, Bashundhara Group, Khandoker Kingshuk Hossain, presided over the event. In his speech, the VC said painting is a branch of education, which is a study of creative skills. It is the mode of creative expression, perception and a good representation of intensity, he added. He also said a child’s latent qualities and creativities are exposed through painting. This creativity not only ennobles the children but also helps them become enlightened citizens. “Children are the future of the country who will take the lead in the days to come. So, we need to broaden the outlook of our children through diversified medium of education,” Prof Jalil Miah said. Prof Mozammel Haque described Bashundhara Group’s contribution to society as praiseworthy. He said Bashundhara Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the country, is keeping social commitment as well as promoting the future of the children, thus making efforts for a sustainable development of the country. Khandoker Kingshuk Hossain said Bashundhara Group (BG) is a leading conglomerate in the country. It not only does business but also promotes education and culture in the country, he added. Bashundhara Group has a slogan to do something better for the country and its people. It has undertaken the painting competition of the children across the country to promote art and literature and to create nationhood among the future citizens of the country, Kingshuk went on. The deputy general manger added that nowadays painting is being used commercially, which has a high demand across the globe. He urged the parents and teachers to explore the latent talents of their children. Some 60 child painters from eight districts of the division took part in the competition under three categories. The theme of the painting was -- Independence, Joy of Independence and Independence and Responsibility. Later, prizes were awarded to the winners.
