Ruma Akter is the daughter of a very poor family of Pathorghata is a village of Bhangura upazila in Pabna district. Her father Abdul Quddus works as a day labourer to manage breads for family members. Ruma’s family took decision on marriage due to financial hardship when she was only thirteen years old. Then she studied at s in eighth grade.
The family fixed the date of marriage. She had started counting down to the arrival of the groom. Then the happiest thing happened. The young girl informed the headmaster of the school about her early marriage. Ruma survived from curse of child marriage. A new story of survival begins. Since then, Ruma started studying with great effort.
After passing through school and college, she completed his graduation and post graduation from Edward College in Pabna. Bashundhara Group has taken sewing training programme through its social platform of Shuvosangho to empower under privileged women across the country.
Through the sewing training programme, Ruma dreams of turning around in this sewing machine. She told about the various dreams of starting a new life by becoming self-reliant.
“Being a child of a poor family, I had to face various problems constantly. I have been half-starved and starved for a long time. Even then I continued my studies. I took sewing training from Bashundhara Shuvosangho Training Centre. I was able to learn work very easily because I know how to study. Now I want to be subliminal. I want to stand next to other more helpless women by becoming an entrepreneur. Many thanks to Bashundhara Group for empowering helpless women like us to become self-reliant,” she said.
Like Ruma, Bashundhara Group has made 50 helpless women of three upazilas of Pabna self-reliant. On behalf of Bashundhara Group, Kaler Kantho editor-in-chief Imdadul Haq Milan handed over the sewing machine among the trainees.
Pabna-3 lawmaker Mokbul Hossain and municipality mayor Golam Hasnain Russell were present while handing over the sewing machine in Bhangura upazila.
Sujanagar MP Ahmed Firoz Kabir, upazila nirbahi officer Tariqul Islam, upazila chairman Abdul Hamid were present on the occasion.
Addressing the programme, Mokbul Hossain said that the country will move forward if the poor women are self-reliant. “Along with the government, Bashundhara Group is working to make women self-reliant. Let them continue this initiative for the welfare of the country and people,” he said.
MP Ahmed Firoz Kabir has applauded Bashundhara Group for up-skilling poor women to become self-reliant.
“Each trainees get a sewing machine. Women will be able to stand on their own feet by working on this machine. Many thanks to Bashundhara Group for such a great work,” he said.
Imdadul Haq Milan said Bashundhara Group is constantly spreading light in the society through Shuvosangho.
“Education is light that illuminating the backward people. We, on behalf of Bashundhara Group, are working to improve the fortunes of backward communities across the country. In continuation of this, I gifted sewing machines to 50 poor women of three upazilas of Pabna after necessary training,” he said.
The noted writer mentioned that the sewing machine helps women to become self-reliant and contribute for the country’s economy.
“Poor women will bring solvency in their family. There is established Bashundhara
Shuvosangho School' in Sujanagar to ensure that poor children do not fall behind in education. The social platform of Bashundhara Group has set up three libraries at Sujanagar, Bhangura and Ishwardi. The entire work was completed under the guidance of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan,” added.
Earlier, three women each from Sujanagar, Bhangra and Chatmohar upazilas received sewing training under supervision of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Shapla Khatun is one of the beneficiaries of the sewing training programme. Three years ago, a day laborer was married to the adjoining upazila.
After marriage, the husband was unbearable in the unbearable torture, but he did not leave her husband's house. When husband left Shapla, to she moved to parental home with a child on her lap. Bashundhara group stands beside Shapla when the woman was deep crisis.
Now Shapla dreams of moving beautiful and fluently self -reliant. Laughing like Shapla Khatun, Arifa Khatun is also dreaming of sewing yarn. Each of them dreams to be self -reliant. Bashundhara Group has introduced an enlightened chapter in their lives. The guests hope that the Bashundhara Group beside the helpless people from the town through the auspicious union.
