Bashundhara Group on Sunday started commercial operations of its bitumen factory at Pangaon under Keraniganj in Dhaka.
Ten dealers received bitumen from the factory after the operations were inaugurated by Ahmed Walid Sobhan, son of Bashundhara Group managing director Sayem Sobhan Tanvir.
Bashundhara Bitumen Project Director Engineer Nafiz Imtiaz said the demand for bitumen in the country is more or less 5 lakh tonnes per year, which is currently met by importing the substance.
He also added that the factory’s annual production capacity is 9 lakh tonnes. “We also have plans to export abroad after fulfilling local demand. Besides, the price of bitumen produced by us will be cheaper than the imported ones.”
“We will bring new products of bitumen which has never been brought to the country before. For this, specialised technology is being used in collaboration with China,” he said.
