The country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group has introduced an edible oil refinery industry to address huge volume of local market demand. The project has been launched aiming at bringing global standard edible oil for local consumers. Safwan Sobhan, Vice Chairman of the Bashundhara Group formally launched the project of edible oil refinery at the conference room of Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters-2 at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on Tuesday. Md Mustafizur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Bashundhara Group and Engr. A.K.M. Mahbub-Uz-Zaman, Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Cement sector, Bashundhara Group were present on the occasion. Maj Gen (retd) Muhammad Mahboob Haider Khan, NDC, PSC, Adviser, Bashundhara Group said, the Bashundhara Group has started work for implementation of edible oil refinery project under the Bashundhara Multi Food Products Ltd. Initially, it will begin with refinery capacity of 2000 tonnes (edible oil soya bean and palm oil) per day to meet the local consumers’ demand maintaining international quality, he added. Mahboob Haider Khan said, Singapore-based LIPICO Technologies will provide technical support to set up the latest technical machinery at edible oil refinery industry located at Bashundhara Industrial Park, Pangaon in Kerniganj, outskirts of Dhaka. A.K.M. Fakhrul Alam, local representative of LIPICO Technologies said, Bashundhara has taken a right decision on setting up an edible oil refinery industry. The industry will be another largest project of this group. He said, the country’s market for edible oil is Tk 20,000 crore annually which is growing gradually. Bashundhara Group will be the appropriate entrepreneur in this sector alongside the City Group and the Meghna Group. A.K.M. He said, their services include designing, supply and commissioning of a full range of processing plants for the oils and fats industries; from process designing, consultancy, supplying, commissioning and training for new plants and to post delivery services for replacement parts, process trouble shooting, and plant expansion.
