‘Sayem Sobhan Anvir to transform gold industry’
Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has started working with a vision to develop the country’s gold industry, former president of the organisation Dr Dilip Kumar Roy said on Sunday.
“A lot of work has already been done. Through this, the gold industry will be transformed from the cottage industry into a larger one in future. The lost glory of the gold industry will be revived under the dynamic leadership of Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Managing Director of Bashundhara Group,” he said.
Dr Dilip Kumar, also chairman of BAJUS District Monitoring Steering Committee, was addressing as the chief guest the Chattogram Divisional Conference-2022 of BAJUS held at Chattogram Officer’s Club.
BAJUS Vice-Presidents Gulzar Ahmed and Md Anwar Hossain were special guests at the programme presided over by Chattogram district unit President Mrinal Dhar.
Expressing gratefulness to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for formulating a gold policy, Dr Dilip Kumar said, “She has given us the gift of a timely gold policy. In the past, Bangalees were rich in gold industry. But in the absence of a modern policy, the industry gradually lost its glory. Now there’s a policy. We can do business with dignity. Though we invested crores of taka in the gold business, we were labelled as smugglers. Banks don’t want to give us loan. Now, the policy has been formulated and we can do business with dignity.”
He said, “The new BAJUS president has taken initiatives to set up a gold bank. A strong committee has already been constituted in this regard. Gold traders will get loans from that bank. No trader has to get into trouble because of money. If there’s no financial crisis, the lost tradition of jewellery industry will come back.”
Dr Dilip Roy said the aim of the current president is that all the gold traders of the country must be members of BAJUS. Gold traders from remote areas of upazilas and districts will also become members of BAJUS. If everyone is a member, a yard will be created to conduct business in a beautiful environment.
BAJUS will stand by gold traders in any problem. If they are not members, BAJUS will not have a chance to take any responsibility for them. Those who become members will get loans, government benefits. Therefore, full committees should be formed in each district and upazila. After that, a large-scale assembly will be held in the largest range, he added.
“Under the leadership and direct supervision of present BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, conferences are being held in eight divisions of the country. Five rallies have already been held. After the conferences of all the departments are over, we will organise a grand meeting in Dhaka. There are plans to have the Prime Minister as the chief guest at the programme. This will be a milestone history for gold traders. That is the goal we are pursuing.”
He further said, “Now we can proudly say that a new beginning has been made under the leadership of BAJUS president.”
BAJUS Central Vice-President Gulzer Ahmed said, “We will say that now a new horizon has started in the jewellery industry. Gold Bank will be set up headed by the current president of BAJUS. This bank will be established with all. Only gold traders can avail loans from banks at nominal interest rates.”
He said, “The mentality of the current president is that every task has to be done very quickly and successfully. He wants to be successful by working with sincerity and effort.”
Vice-President Md Anwar Hossain said on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary, the maiden three-day gold exhibition is going to begin on March 17 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.
“More than 60 organisations from all over the country will participate in the BAJUS fair. Gold traders from Chattogram will also participate. It was a new initiative in business expansion,” he added.
He further said: “The main goal of our current president is to develop the country’s gold sector and eliminate unemployment in the country. We have already come a long way in working towards this goal. I hope that if you all are together; we will be able to travel a long way in the future.”
Pranab Saha, general secretary of BAJUS Chattogram unit, gave the welcome speech on the occasion.
BAJUS Chattogram-Unit Joint Secretary Kajal Banik and Hiranmoy Dhar moderate the programme.
Rakibul Islam Chowdhury, president of BAJUS Jashore unit, and Sudhir Ranjan Banik, vice-president of BAJUS Chattogram unit, addressed the gathering as special guests.
Before the commencement of the programme, leaders of the BAJUS Chattogram unit welcomed the guests with flowers.
