Bashundhara signs deal for Economic zone at Mirsarai

Bashundhara Industrial Economic Zone, a concern of country’s leading industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has entered into an agreement with Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to lease 500 acres of land at BEZA-developed industrial zone at Mirsarai in Chittagong.
The agreement was signed on Monday at a function at BEZA office at Karwan Bazar. BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the event.
Vice-Chairman of Bashundhara Group and Managing Director of Bashundhara Industrial Economic Zone Safwan Sobhan and Executive Member of BEZA (Investment and Development) Md Harunur Rashid signed the lease document on behalf of their respective sides. Earlier on July 24 this year, the two sides signed an MoU with regard to this, says a BEZA release.
Under the deal, the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group will invest $500 million to set up Bashundhara Industrial Economic Zone in under-construction Mirsarai Economic Zone in Chittagong.  The group will set up an ultra-modern pulp, paper and board mill where some 10,000 jobs are expected to be created.  
“It will be possible to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041 with coordinating public and private initiatives through the government’s economic zone programme,” Pabab Chowdhury commented at the signing ceremony. According to BEZA, Bangladesh has already received investment proposal of nearly $10 billion from both local and foreign investors for Mirsarai Economic Zone.
Work of constructing super dyke barrage and our-lane link road, and proving power, gas and water supply connections are going on in full swing, BEZA officials informed.  
Abdul Monem Group vice-chairman Mainuddin Monem, Bashundhara Group CEO Md Fakhruddin, BEZA executive members Dr M Emdadul Haque and Mohammed Ayub, among others, were also present at the event.
