Bashundhara Group has emerged as the savior of the poor family members of Nahid Hussain and Md Morsalin, who were killed in a recent clash between the traders and students in the capital. After losing their beloved ones, the only bread earners, the two families saw no hope of survival. When they were staring at uncertain future, Bashundhara Group came forward to stand by them.
The two families have now found a ray of hope to live on amid their utter plight thanks to the humanitarian gesture of the country’s leading business conglomerate. Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was shocked when he came to know about the miseries of the two families through media reports. He was greatly touched specially by the affecting story of Morsalin’s daughter. She (Morsalin’s daughter) said her father is coming with new Eid dress for her. Immediately after learning their plight, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan directed the officials concerned of Bashundhara Group to extend financial support to both families of Morsalin and Nahid. As part of its firm commitment towards the people and country, the business conglomerate donated Tk 2 million to the family members of the two victims on Wednesday. Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Soban Anvir handed over the donation cheques to the two families at his residence at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital. Eighteen-year-old Nahid worked as a delivery assistant for a company named Data Tech Computer on Elephant Road. He was hacked to death during the clash on April 19. Nahid got married to Dalia Akhter Shila six months ago. The newly married couple was living in Kamrangichar in the capital. After receiving support from Bashundhara Group, Nahid’s wife burst into tears, saying “Nahid died. He will never come back.” A resident of Daudkandi in Cumilla district, Morsalin lived in the capital's Kamrangir Char with his family. He left behind two children aged 6 and 4. Nahid’s father Nadim Mia, mother Nargis Begum and wife Shila and her father Md Dalim received the donation. On behalf of Morsalin’s family, his mother Nurjahan Begum and wife Mitu received the donation cheques. Nahid’s mother Nargis Begum expressed the hope that support from Bashundhara Group will help them survive. Morsalin’s mother Nurjahan Begum has been suffering from heart ailments. She will now be able continue her treatment with this assistance. “Another of my son Nur Mohammad works at Gausia market. We will try to set up a shop for him to earn livelihood for the family,” Nurjahan Begum told the Daily Sun. East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL) Director Imdadul Haq Milan said Bashundhara Group has been continuing humanitarian programme for the people in distress across the country. “At the directive of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, the business conglomerate reached food support to 50 thousands of families in the country’s northern region during the corona pandemic. The Group continued support for improvement of livelihood of the poor. Bashundhara Group has recently provided financial support for meritorious medical students to help them continue their study,” he said. Bashundhara Group Media Adviser Mohammad Abu Tayeb, TV channel News24 Executive Editor Rahul Raha and Chief Coordinator to Managing Director Mohammed Golam were present on the occasion.
