Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan receives Star Client Award

Country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group (BG) has been honored with ‘Star Client Award’ of Southeast Bank Limited (SEBL) for outstanding contribution to country’s private housing sector.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, chairman of the group, received the award from Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman at a gala ceremony of ‘SEBL-FE-PRI Green Trust Award-2014’ at Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel Saturday.

SEBL in association with the research organization Policy Research Institute (PRI) and national English daily Financial Express (FE) introduced the ‘Green Award’ to create awareness on green retention and green business.

SEBL honored Bashundhara Group and 14 others for outstanding contribution to the national economy.

Addressing the function, BB governor said the increase of financing in agriculture and small and medium enterprise (SME) sectors brings change to country’s economy.

If the green financing is added, the country will experience a long-term change in its economy, the governor hoped.Former BB governor, also National Pay Commission chairman, Dr Mohammad Farashuddin, in his speech, said that the developed countries were busy at the beginning of the industrialization. But, they did not think about the environment.
“Our view is to create industrialization but that will not be in exchange of the resources of our future generation,” he added.
SEBL managing director (MD) Shahid Hasan, in his speech, praised BG’s contribution to the country’s private housing sector.
Chittagong Waste Treatment Plants Ltd (CWTPL) and Sustainable Energy for Development Programme of GIZ Bangladesh were given the ‘SEBL-FE-PRI Green Award-2014’.
Alhaj Dalil Uddin Ahmed and David Hancock received the awards on behalf of CWTPL and GIZ Bangladesh respectively.
SEBL chairmen Alamgir Kabir, FE editor Moazzem Hossain, PRI chairman Dr Zaidi Sattar, among others, spoke at the function.
