Bashundhara Group proud to build corona hospital: MD

Bashundhara Group is proud to build the ‘world second largest hospital’ for Covid-19 patients at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka city, its Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir said on Monday.
Sayem Sobhan Anvir came up with the statement during his visit to the corona hospital in Kuril Biswa Road area.
The Bashundhara Group managing director expressed satisfaction over the construction work of the makeshift hospital.
Officials of the Health Engineering Department and Bashundhara Group have been working for a couple of weeks to construct the hospital.
Talking to the media, Sayem Sobhan Anvir said that the opening of the hospital now depends on the government as we have completed our tasks to provide facilities.
ICCB Chief Executive Jasim Uddin and other high-ups were also present on the occasion.
The ICCB will be used as a hospital for the time being and it will return to its previous status housing trade fairs and other events after corona is over.
“We were designated to provide facilities. We have done our tasks. Now the government will make further move. I have witnessed that the hospital is almost complete. Nothing else is remaining. Now doctors and nurses will come and the hospital will go live,” Sayem Sobhan said.
He further mentioned that the work of isolation units is fully completed and the intensive care unit is almost ready.
“The hospital will provide services to many corona patients under single platform. We never expect the increasing number of patients. However, we pray for the nation as we can overcome the situation,” Sayem added.
He further said Bashundhara Group has made the hospital not for profit initiative under corporate social responsibly programme.
Earlier, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan had sent a written proposal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to construct the hospital for coronavirus patients at the ICCB in Kuril Biswa Road area.
Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir formally tendered the proposal to Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus at the PMO. The premier accepted the proposal instantly. Besides, Sayem Sobhan Anvir also donated Tk 100 milion to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
Bashundhara Group has designated its trade centre with 150,000 square feet and four convention centres with 90,000 square feet for the noble cause of treating people infected with the deadly virus which has seriously affected Bangladesh like other parts of the world.
Meanwhile, the noble initiative of Bashundhara Group to convert trade centre into a makeshift hospital has already been acclaimed at home and abroad.
Diplomats of different foreign missions and United Nations (UN) agencies in Dhaka have highly appreciated the Bashundhara Group’s initiative.
They said the country’s largest hospital will contribute greatly to the treatment of coronavirus patients.
Besides, United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based newspaper ‘Khaleej Times’ has lauded the noble initiative of Bashundhara Group.
