Bashundhara Group Independence Cup Kabaddi ends amid festivity

The final leg of Bashundhara Group Independence Cup Kabaddi 2018 concluded amid much fanfare at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital on Sunday.
Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) organised the whole tournament with the sponsorship of Bashundhara Group, country’s largest business conglomerate. The group is patronising in various sporting events like cricket, football, table tennis, golf and so on. The group is always a premier patron of sports at home and abroad.
In the final match of the Kabaddi meet, Kurigram district overpowered Madaripur district by a huge margin of 58-36 points.
Kurigram started with attacking mind set and finished the first half by 30-23 points lead. In the second half of the match, Madaripur tried to surpass the score line of Kurigram but Kurigram players fought till the end of the match and finished on a high with 22 points lead.
Mizanur Rahman (6) of Kurigram was adjudged the man of the match.
Al Amin (5) of Kurigram was awarded the player of the tournament.
In the day’s first semi-final match, Madaripur district beat Khulna district by 53-47 points while Kurigram district defeated Sylhet district by 39-36 points in the second semi-final of the tourney.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Sri Biren Sikder attended the day’s event as the chief guest and later he distributed prizes among the winners.
BKF President and Inspector General of Police Dr Javed Patwary presided over the concluding ceremony.
BKF General Secretary and Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Habibur Rahman, BKF Joint General Secretary and Additional DIG Gazi Md Mozammel Haque, Tournament Committee Chairman Amir Hossain Patwary, Bashundhara LP Gas Ltd Head of Division (Sales) and Sunderban Industrial Complex Ltd Mir TI Faruk Rizvi, Bashundhara Food & Beverage Industries Ltd Head of Sales and Marketing MM Jashim Uddin were present during the prize distributing ceremony.
The champions of the tournament received prize money of Tk 100,000 while the runners-up team received Tk 50,000 and third place holders of the tourney were awarded Tk 15,000.
Eight district level teams participated splitting into two groups in the three-day tournament.
Group A: Bogura, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet.
Group B: Kurigram, Barishal, Madaripur and Chattogram.
